I have been working with Janna for years, studying the influence of age on susceptibility to addiction. I am an associate professor and the principal investigator of the Neurobiology of Behavior research group at Utrecht University (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine). I am particularly interested in individual differences in sensitivity to mental health issues, including addiction. To this end, I have developed animal models for addiction, in particular models to study loss of control over substance use, and a model to investigate individual differences in susceptibility to alcohol addiction. The research in my team is gradually shifting to focus more on early development, play behavior, and resilience. I am one of the coordinators of the strategic theme ‘Dynamics of Youth’ and am closely involved in various interdisciplinary research projects. The collaboration with the NofA lab is inspiring, innovative, and a great example of synergy that arises when researchers from different disciplines join forces.
