My name is Rosa and I’m in my fourth and final year of the bachelor psychobiology at the University of Amsterdam. I look forward to my internship at Neuroscience of Addiction Lab and to learn more about the underlying neural mechanisms of cannabis addiction. During my internship I will write my thesis on the relationship between cannabis addiction and impulsivity. I always have been very interested in addiction so I hope to gain some fundamental knowledge on cannabis addiction and hope to discover if doing research on addiction is something I would like to do in the future.
Femke Tjebbes, Bachelor student
My name is Femke and I am in my final year of the bachelor Psychobiology at the University of Amsterdam. In the coming five months I will be an intern at de NOFA lab while writing my thesis. Since I’ve always had an interest in the neural mechanisms of addiction, I am very grateful for this internship and looking forward to learning a lot more about the causes and consequences of cannabis addiction. During my internship, I will write my thesis and focus on the effects of cognitive control on the severity of someone’s addiction. Additionally, I hope to get a better understanding of what it is like to work as a researcher and perhaps get a better idea of what I would like to do in the future.

My name is Puck and I am in my third and last year of the bachelor Psychobiology at the University of Amsterdam. My interest lies broadly in the field of psychopathology. I would like to contribute to a further understanding and a better treatment of conditions such as addiction, anxiety and OCD. That is why I am looking forward to complete my bachelor with an internship at the Neuroscience of Addiction Lab. During my time as an intern, I will be investigating the relationship between cannabis use (disorder) and generalized anxiety disorder and how cognitive functions relate to these disorders. I’m excited to gain more knowledge and experience in this work field and to work alongside like-minded individuals!
After finishing my bachelor project I continued to work as a research assistant at the NOFA lab.
Ran Zhang, Masters Student
I am Ran, a Master’s student of Clinical Psychology at Erasmus University Rotterdam. I look forward to working as a research intern at NofA lab, investigating protective factors for problematic substance use. In the next couple of months, I hope to contribute to the research goals of the team and gain knowledge in understanding why some can ‘mature out of’ heavy substance use.
Agnieszka Kusal, Masters Student
My name is Agnieszka and I am in my final year, pursuing Clinical Psychology Master at Erasmus University Rotterdam. My interests lie primarily in alcohol addiction and underlying mechanisms that make it chronic for most. During this research internship, I am excited to look into differences between adults vs adolescents in addiction. My focus would primarily be on reward sensitivity and alcohol. I am looking forward to broadening my knowledge in addiction and working with the team. In the future I am planning to complete Psychotherapy apprenticeship and be able to help people and contribute to addiction treatment.
Doga Unsal, Masters Student
My name is Doga, and I am a Clinical Psychology master’s student at Erasmus University Rotterdam in my first and final year. I’ll be doing an internship while writing my thesis in the coming months. Since I began studying psychology, addiction has been the subject that has captivated me the most. In my research, I’ll examine the relationship between social influence and alcohol intake, as well as how this relationship varies with age. Working with my supervisors and conducting research for my thesis will help me to increase my knowledge in this field, which I am very excited about!
Margaux van Loon, Masters Student
months I will complete a research internship at the Neuroscience of Addiction Lab including writing my thesis. As part of a larger study, I investigate the association between the severity of cannabis use and depression. As I am particularly interested in the prevention of mental disorders I thereby examine if those who start using earlier are at a higher risk of developing depression. I am looking forward to gaining more experience and becoming more confident in scientific research and expanding my knowledge on the risk factors of mental illness to hopefully one day contribute to a mentally healthier world.

My name is Colin, I am a 22-year-old student at Erasmus University. I am currently writing my Master Thesis investigating the relationship between depressive symptoms and severity of alcohol use and related problems. Additionally, I am looking at the mediating contribution of working memory deficits and how they facilitate excessive alcohol use. I am very excited to further extent my knowledge by conducting addiction-focused research with my supervisors and fellow students.

My name is Beatriz and I’m a Clinical Psychology master student at Erasmus University Rotterdam. I’m excited to be doing my research internship at the Neuroscience of Addiction Lab and looking forward to learning more on the causes and development of addiction. Specifically, I will be writing my thesis on the relationship between social reward sensitivity and cannabis consumption, and whether this is moderated by age. This topic is especially close to my heart since I aspire to become a Child and Adolescent clinical psychologist one day.

My name is Lara, I am a 25-year-old master student at Erasmus University. For the clinical psychology master thesis, I am investigating the role of gender in the relationship between social attunement and cannabis use severity. Due to current worldwide developments in the cannabis legalization and decriminalization and the increasing relevance of the topic, I am excited to broaden my knowledge and aid addiction-focused research towards more understanding of addiction-related problems with the NofA lab.

My name is Uljana, and I am currently doing my master’s in Clinical Psychology. I am from Estonia but currently studying at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. I am excited to do my internship at the NofA as I have always been interested in getting to know more about addiction. Currently, I am investigating the effect of social reward sensitivity on alcohol and cannabis use in different age groups for my thesis. This is a great opportunity for me to explore myself in the role of a researcher and get a better understanding of addiction processes that I can potentially implement in my clinical practice in the future.

My name is Vanessa and I am a 22-year old student currently following the Clinical Psychology and Human Learning and Performance master’s degrees. I chose these two topics as I aspire to make a change in education and society through psychology. As addiction is one of the pressing problems in our society, I am excited for the opportunity to contribute to the body of knowledge regarding this topic during my research internship at the Neuroscience of Addiction Lab. My master thesis will delve into the moderating role of behavioural inhibition on the association between social attunement and cannabis use.

My name is Roos, I am a first year student of the master Biomedical Sciences: Neurobiology at the University of Amsterdam. My specialization lies within psychopharmacology and pathophysiology. I am excited to participate in the research of the NofA Lab for the upcoming 6 months. I will primarily focus on the relationship between cannabis addiction and white matter tract properties. I am excited to learn how to obtain and analyse MRI data and I hope to contribute to novel findings within the addiction field.
Marc Rebouillon, Masters Student
My name is Marc and I am currently doing my Master’s in Clinical Psychology at Erasmus University Rotterdam. I am mainly interested in studying addiction and substance use disorders in clinical and non-clinical samples. In my Master’s thesis i will investigate the moderation effect of drinking motives on the association between social attunement and alcohol use patterns/problems, how this moderation effect is influenced by gender and how it differs between explicit and implicit measures of social attunement. I am looking forward to my internship at the Neuroscience of Addiction Lab as it offers valuable insights into the workwise and pathways of substance use on human neurology and behavior. In the future i am planning on pursuing a postgraduate education program to become a therapist and treat individuals suffering from substance use disorders.

Hi, my name is Jill. I am a master’s student of Clinical Psychology at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Currently, I am in the ending phase of my masters and I have started writing my thesis. I am very excited to complete this research internship at the Neuroscience Lab of Addiction. During my bachelor, I have become very interested in the brain, the effects of substance use and abuse, and well-being. I am looking forward to learning more about addiction and MRI data and to contribute findings to the addiction field. For my thesis I will focus on the mediating and moderating role of coping motives in the association between alcohol use and depressive symptoms.

I’m very excited to intern at NofA, researching the predictive factors of change in cannabis use in heavy users.
